Carlos Martel

Founder of the Carolingian dynasty, which he reigned in France and Germany between the VIIIth century and X - though he itself never received king's title-. Carlos was a bastard son of the butler of Austrasia, Herstal's Pipino II, which Franc did to himself with the government of the kingdom taking advantage of the weakness of the last sovereign Merovingians. It happened to his father in 714, happening ahead from the legitimate children from that one. After facing to Neustria's secessionist trends, it submitted Friesland, Saxony, Thuringia and Bavaria, restoring the unit of the kingdom Franc and extending his domains. But his place in the History owes it to him, especially, to his victory in the battle of Poitiers (732), in which it defeated the Arabic emir Abderramán, stopping the advance of the Islam towards West. He took advantage of the victory.
